There's never been a better time to become an IT Contractor...Here's why

You’ve been thinking about getting into IT contracting maybe you’ve hit a salary ceiling? You’d like to work on a variety of projects? Receive an excellent hourly $$ rate? Have NO politics? But when is the right time & what do you need to set up to become an IT contractor?

Ideally a longer term contract would be good for your first one so you can get accustomed to managing your own time, finances and doing timesheets & invoices.

Sounds scary right?

But like anything it becomes quite normal quite quickly and the benefits are one hundred fold…

There’s been no better time to go contracting due to an extremely skill short market in New Zealand with the borders being closed which has halted immigration. This coupled with the whole world being run on software due to Covid is a perfect storm…

This comes down to supply & demand issue in the labour market globally & in New Zealand with less software developers / skilled IT professionals so it has become a ‘contract market’.

With delivery demands and so the amount of online services exploding due to Covid companies & government organisations need IT professionals fast and are happy to pay contractors.

Companies also know that when they bring on a contractor they pay a premium to get the best in the market. But the reality is you don’t need to be a rock star, you just need to be a solid professional who is consistent.

The reality is that it’s easy to become an IT contractor and setting up is relatively straight forward with everything you need to know online.
