Well done New Zealand & our team of 5 million
Well done to our team of 5 million as schools go back and businesses are up & running.
Give yourself a massive pat on the back. Yes you, you’ve deserved it :-)
I think it’s key to recognise that everyone’s situation has been different in this Covid crisis - some have lost their jobs, some have been splitting their time at home working full-time trying to manage kids, others just getting bored - such a weird & scary time, but it’s been great to take stock and realise how important our freedom is when it’s suddenly snatched away from us by a nasty aggressive virus.
For Christchurch people I kind of feel we’ve, quite frankly had enough - the Earthquakes nearly 10 years ago, the tragic mosque shootings last year and now this just to crank up the anxiety levels a notch or three. Yes us Cantabrians are well known for being hardy & resourceful but it’s been bloody difficult and seeing businesses back & running, peoples livelihoods start to see a glimmer of normality makes me feel a sense of utter relief but I’m not short-sighted enough to know the next 6-12 months will be bumpy, with our friends overseas not in such good shape.
If you can support your local businesses there’s no time like now and I get the feeling Kiwis will get out and about and support what they can afford. It could be a lot of fun taking that trip to the Catlins you’ve always wanted to or exploring the far north to the Bay of Islands , Kerikeri or further afield or rediscovering our beautiful Akaroa over the hill or taking a short hop to Hanmer Springs via the Waipara wineries for a long weekend.
I feel extremely lucky to live in New Zealand and love my country. We went hard & early and our government made robust decisions based on science – Dr Ashley Bloomfield, sir, you are a legend. There was clear, direct communication from our Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern.
It’s been a time when people have come together albeit on zoom - old school & uni friends and catching up with people you normally see in other social groups - thank goodness for technology. It might have been a little more difficult in the time of the black plague. Again hats off & feeling extremely grateful to the front line / essential workers - nurses, doctors, health professionals, supermarket workers, fire, police, ambulance, caregivers, and IT professionals keeping the internet & all kinds of systems running that our world is now powered on & heavily reliant.
So what’s next? Be kind & understanding help where you can and live life to the fullest.
Kia Kaha Aotearoa we’re a country of people we can all be proud of.
If you've recently lost your job please let me know if I can help out? Happy to lend an ear or give some advice as this is the third down market I've worked in but probably the weirdest. If I've worked with you happy to write a LinkedIn recommendation or reference or put you in touch with my network. If there's anything I can do please let me know, take care out there everyone :-)
