Team of 5 million New Zealanders help the Blackcaps top the world
The NZ Cricket team - the Blackcaps are on top of the world becoming the top test cricket team for the first time, an incredible achievement & a very proud time to be a Kiwi.
So what can we learn from team work?
It’s really topped our summer off. Being Covid free has not only allowed our economy to get back going but also allowed international sporting events to take place with Australia touring here to play the All Blacks in rugby and The West Indies, Pakistan, Australia & Bangladesh to tour NZ playing cricket. Of course all these teams need to spend 14 days in MIQ – managed isolation quarantine as with returning Kiwis and anyone visiting our fair shores.
It’s been a real boost for the national morale internally, but there is some ‘survivor guilt’ as we do feel terrible for all our friends around the world suffering more lockdowns in this crazy time living through a global pandemic and we want nothing more than a return to more peaceful times.
What’s been amazing is to not only see the Blackcaps be able to play again but have real success. So how have we achieved this?
I was writing a personal post on Facebook and started listing some of the star achievements of a few of the key players…and I ended up listing the WHOLE team….something clicked…
‘Amazing test win for the Blackcaps v Pakistan with Neil Wagner bowling with two broken toes & some epic contributions from Kane (Williamson), BJ (Watling), Santner, Jamieson, Latham, Blundell, Taylor, Nicholls, Southee, Boult with stubborn & gritty play from Pak...the 6 year old absolutely loved it..so lucky to have international sport & for NZ to become No.1 test team in the world wooo hooo’
There’s 11 players in a cricket team and if you look at the post above I mentioned every single one of them…they ALL took wickets, scored runs with the bat over 50 runs or made centuries….I was amazed and to summarise EVERY SINGLE PLAYER CONTRIBUTED. They then did it again in the 2nd test match to win the series 2-0 and officially became the top test cricket team in the world.
So a great reminder is that every one in a team contributes in different ways but if we all do our bit we get an incredible result…the sum of the parts are always more powerful than any one individual’s contribution and a great reminder of the importance of everyone in the team working together.
And more importantly the team of 5 million in New Zealand has allowed the Blackcaps team of 11 to succeed in becoming the top test cricket team in the world, just fantastic stuff well done Kiwis.
Be kind in 2021 everyone
