Current IT Job market for Christchurch & beyond March 2025
So what are we seeing in the market? Things are picking up with more new jobs coming on as everyone is back in the office after summer in March.
We typically find January a quieter month, although with some jobs from December falling into January and we had some contracts confirmed, new starters and final interviews with offers being accepted. But of course the kids are still on school holidays.
February is the best summer weather for holidaying all over Aotearoa and best time to avoid the school holidays. This year we also saw A LOT of people going to Japan for skiing (both in January & February) with the weak yen, unbelievable powder snow, great people / culture & delicious food making it an incredible holiday destination for Kiwis.
This all amounts to EVERYONE being back in the office for March. Decision makers are ALL back on board and budgets are being spent with most companies end of financial year to 31st March. The new financial year starts 1st April and businesses start to think about their projects & innovation ahead but often this planning can fall into April & May.
We have seen more geopolitical change which is causing uncertainty in the markets. This has not been ideal timing with the economy starting to slowly grow (with VC funding up in the US after the election which often trickles down to NZ & interest rates lowering) and pick up into 2025 which is challenging. However, business goes on and we are seeing a number of projects that have kicked off or are being planned to start in the next few months. The tech space tends to be less affected as technology always needs to be upgraded and innovation continue for competitive advantage, especially in the AI space. AI will again be the theme for 2025 needing good understanding of LLMs and expertise around how to best implement AI into furthering work force automation.
Good news there seems to be more new jobs coming on in Seek & LinkedIn as the IT job market improves compared to last year.
